SHAMING

the story of Meddy Goossens

Boek Shaming - Meddy Goossens

“I wrote a book. About what it feels like to unwillingly end up naked on the internet."

“Some stories stay stuck in your throat for years. Until you decide that silence has become heavier than sharing.”

With these words, Meddy Goossens opened a social media post in 2025.

“I’m writing a book. About what it feels like to unwillingly end up naked on the internet. What happens when the media mention your name, but not your truth.
How digital humiliation can tear apart your career, your relationships, your future… unless you decide to do something different with that pain.”

For more than ten years, Meddy unwillingly became the subject of other people’s stories. But this is her story: raw, unfiltered, and honest.

Through this book, she invites readers into her darkest thoughts, while also allowing them to witness the moments that gave her the strength to keep going, refuse to give up, and become a source of inspiration for anyone who feels trapped by shame in their own life.

In her book SHAMING Meddy breaks taboos surrounding sexting, victim blaming, and shaming in our digital age. A time in which AI can make it even harder to control the images being created and shared. In her view, the time for avoiding difficult conversations and tiptoeing around discomfort is over. She wants to move straight through that discomfort.

Her book is both a personal testimony and a call to action for parents, schools, leaders, and ultimately for all of us.

Personal

Meddy’s
letters

For Meddy, writing is a way of processing, a way of giving words to what she could not speak about for years. She wrote the letter to her perpetrator to let go of what she had carried with her for far too long. She wrote the letter to her parents out of love, but also from a deep need to finally express what she had been feeling all those years. She decided to share these letters, in her book and here online, with others who live silently with shame, as well as with the people standing beside them.
